Silver Lining

The flood was rough.
Gutting the house sucked.
Being displaced was slightly nerve-wracking.
But, with most things, there was a silver lining...many actually.
Here's one of them....

The Cool House, so named by Tavish the first time we went and looked at it. I liked it so much (I never like any houses we look at) we bought it. And moved in. And we LOVE it. I never want to move again (sorry Sarah).

To celebrate Rafal's cousin Anita came down from NYC and we had a "windowsill party", the Polish version of a housewarming party. It involves lots of drinking and then more drinking. I actually didn't know we were having one until we were in the middle of it...I think Uncle Tom was just happy to have someone to drink with :) And isn't crazy how the orange-checkered couches match the blinds in the house??? it was meant to be...of course neither one are staying...

Birthday Season

I thought once the holidays were over it was going to be pretty boring around here...turns out this has been birthday season! Tavish has been to a kitty party, a Chuck E. Cheese party (aka Chunk'N'Cheese in Tavishese) and a fireman party held in an actual fire station! Even I got to go to a girls night out birthday party...

Not yet...

Pretty much on a daily basis, Tavish asks if we can go to the beach...

Not yet buddy.

I explained how we can't go to the beach until it's summertime, sunny and warm, and we can wear shorts. So now every time it's sunny out he asks "is it summertime yet?"

How Hiccups Are Made

Tavish and I were playing in the living room, I am laying on my back on the floor when Tavish comes along and sits on my stomach and farts on me! He then pulls up my shirt to look at my belly button and says "did my fart go in there?" I laugh and say maybe, he laughs and says "maybe that's where hiccups come from!"

Then he sits in my stomach and farts on me again.

I really wish I could have hiccuped after that.

Boys are crazy.

No Accident

there are no appropriate photos for this...

So the other day I was thinking that now that Tavish is wearing underwear every day that I needed to buy some more in case he has an "accident". Fast forward to yesterday...I'm getting ready to get in the shower and Tavish is in his room and has shut the door, I knock on the door but he doesn't want me to come in (usually he only does this if he is mad, but he's not) so I leave him alone to play. I take my shower and then go back to his room to check on him, knock on the door, he lets me in but is standing there giving me that look...the I-did-something-naughty-look...then I glance down and there is a pile of poop on the floor! Nasty! Then he pooped his pants again later that day at the babysitters and peed on the floor at home that night for Rafal. WTH! Today we go to the store and while I am at the store buying him new underwear...in case he has an accident...he hides in the clothes rack (which he often does) and poops in his underwear!!!
Guess I should have bought more...
And scratch the previous post that says he is potty-trained except for naps and bedtime...

Thoughts on Three

Now that the holidays are over and things are more calm (well as calm as they ever are at our house...just wait) and Tavish has been three for a whole month now...here's what three is like...

At 40pounds and 40.5inches Tavish is officially the size of a four year old.

He is screaming a lot less and saying funny things a lot more.

He is potty trained except for naps and bedtime.

He pretty much refuses to ride his tricycle but likes his balance bike (he may never learn how to pedal).

Fartos and poopoos are hilarious and talked about often at home (and, let's face it, everywhere else too).

Like his parents, he loves "chockwit" and frequently asks for it. for breakfast. and lunch. and dinner. and snacks.

He likes to play with his cars, trucks, trains and legos.

He loves to cuddle and read books as we tuck him into bed...and then ask if we will "sweep with me for just a minute".

Now that he is in a big boy bed (er, mattress on the floor now) he realized he can get out of said bed and come into ours almost every night at some point.

He will let me cuddle him most of the time and is good about giving hugs and kisses.

Sometimes when we are driving in the car he will ask to hold my hand (love it).

He has a new found joy in jumping off things and asking me to "come look!"

He still answers a lot of questions in the negative...even though he really wants/means the opposite.

He is starting to get a little sassy...saying "nuffing!" in a very crabby put-out voice among other sassiness.

He can also be grumpy and has "grumpy arms" and will announce "I'm grumpy"...sometimes for no apparent reason.

But he is a good helper and will put his toys away (when prompted, of course) and has little chores that he helps with around the house (he loves to scrub the toilet...woohoo!)

He is enjoying his tumbling and swim classes at the rec center.

Every Sunday he grumbles about going to church but then has so much fun in Primary.

He still likes to hold things and take things to bed with him or if we are going somewhere (toys and kitchen utensils are the usual suspects) and often has a hard time getting in the car because his hands are so full of stuff.

Tavish loves to help me bake, especially if we are making cookies.

Lots of random observations but so far we like three!
The older he is getting the more fun we are having with him...here's to a fun year :)

New Year's 2012

We were going to go to Pittsburgh for New Year's weekend to hang out with friends, but realized the day before we were to leave it was going to snow the day we had to drive back...so last minute switch to staying home. Spent NYE watching the Chinese dancers at the Temple Visitor's Center, hanging at a friend's house watching the kids rock out on the Wii, and going to bed late...

New Year's day was Tavish's first day as a Sunbeam! He turned out to be more of a grumpbeam...to top it off he got a horrible haircut the day before and whacked his face that morning and got a big bruise right on his cheek. And he spent the entire sacrament meeting complaining loudly about not wanting to be at church and wanting to go home *sigh* On a positive note...we were on time to church for the first time in ages...so we're off to a good start!

We're not ready to let go of the holidays! So we went to see the White House Christmas tree on it's last night.

On the way back to the car Tavish fell down and hurt his hands...which necessitated carrying his dinosaur in his mouth...
