A Few Things...

It is crazy hot here and a few days ago Tavish and I went to the pool and ever since then he has been asking for "swimming glasses". So while we were at Target today we picked up a pair...

Don't call them swimming goggles because you will be immediately corrected in a very insistent, whiny voice.

I feel like I need to explain a few things about this picture:
First, you either love or hate the dollar section at Target...today Tavish spotted this giant sponge hammer as soon as we walked in the door and carried it through the whole store singing "Bod the builder...yes, we can!". He also felt the need to wear his Trader Joe stickers on both of his knees, a switch up from the usual placement on the top of his head. The goggles...er, glasses are being worn to watch the movie Cars and make him look like he has a wonky eye. And finally, he is sitting on his side of the couch. I never knew he had claimed one side of the couch until recently when I unknowingly tried to sit on that spot and he freaked out and said it was his side...who knew?

First Prayer

Tonight we kneeled down to say bedtime prayer with Tavish and for the first time he started saying his little prayer all by himself! Here's what a 2 year old says in his prayer (said in slightly high-pitched "being sweet" voice):

Dear Heavenly Father,
thank you for this day,
thank you for pancakes and applesauce (which he had just finished eating)
thank you for the boat and for Nephi's older brothers (we had just finished reading the "boat story" and sang the Primary song about building the boat)
thank you for Nephi, thank you for Nephi, thank you for Nephi (his eyes are open and he is looking at his book that is open to the boat story)

at this point we had to take over and help him finish his prayer which ended with a very emphatic "Amen!"

Cooling off...

It's heating up here again so tonight we headed to the spraypark for Tavish's favorite method of cooling off...

Birthday Boy

Some of you may realize that it is July and Tavish's birthday is not actually in July. I remember vividly the 3 hours of pushing that it took to bring him in to this world and it certainly did not take place in July. Tavish, however does not remember this and has been talking about birthdays a lot lately, and about birthday cakes in particular the last few days. Today we went shopping at the commissary and on the way there he kept talking about wanting a chocolate rainbow birthday cake. Where this came from I have no idea...anyhow, in an attempt to prevent a meltdown in the store (which is what usually happens) I told him he could pick out a birthday cake at the end. So tonight was our impromptu birthday party...we even had saved his candle from his lame birthday party on his actual birthday (we were horribly sick).

And this is how a two year old blows out his birthday candle.
I asked him what he wished for and he said "birthday cake".
You got your wish buddy.

Fourth of July

Our Independence Day festivities started with a ward breakfast at a nearby park, where we ate lots of pancakes and bugs (gnats everywhere...gross). We had told Tavish we were going to take him the beach afterwards because he's been asking to go just about everyday. Well, apparently everyone else had promised their kids too because by the time we got there at 11:30 the beach was filled to capacity and closed off. So we went to Annapolis instead...

where Tavish joined the revolution!

Tavish likes to read so Alex Haley read him Roots right at the spot where his ancestor Kunta Kinte was brought to the US in chains to become a slave.
We checked out all the boats in the harbor and had some ice cream, then headed home for a nap.

Later Tavish traded in his bayonet for a glo-stick and got a little crazy before the fireworks show.

Ready for fireworks!

A Capital Fourth. The local high school puts on a pretty good show...we were finding debris in our hair the next day...

Firecracker

Every year the whole nation gets together and celebrates...

Grandma Linda's birthday! This year the birthday party was a day early but still a cracker...yummy dinner courtesy of Lana and Hawk...

and fireworks courtesy of the boys...in true Virginia style, the thunder started rolling and the rain started falling right in the middle of the show...accompanied by the sound of fire engines in the distance...

but it was still a doozy...Tavish enjoyed the show but not the noise...those pesky fire engines kept getting louder...and louder...until we realized, when we got rained out, they were right in the front yard!
